A Letter from New President of TEN, David Thomas
David Thomas
"When I think of the wisdom and scope of His plan, I fall down on my knees and pray to the Father of all the great family of God—some of them already in heaven and some down here on earth— that out of His glorious, unlimited resources He will give you the mighty inner strengthening of His Holy Spirit." (Ephesians 3:14-16 Living Bible)

In 2006, I attended my first TEN conference in Gatlinburg, Tennessee and I immediately knew I was home. The worship, teaching and fellowship were like water to a thirsty man and the feeling of freedom to be whomever God created me to be was powerfully healing. The following year, our church affiliated with TEN and I was asked to be on the board.

For the past 10 years, I have served with many godly men and women, as we sought to maintain the foundational vision of TEN to be the light of Christ for the LGBT community and as I step into the role of president I feel both honored and humbled to be asked to lead this organization.

For 29 years, The Evangelical Network has proclaimed the gospel, the good news of God's inclusive love and our world needs this message now more than ever. As we move forward, guided by the Holy Spirit, guarded by the truth of God's Word and giving of ourselves, I believe the impact will be immeasurable.

Thank you for your prayers, your words of wisdom and encouragement, and thank you most of all, for standing with TEN in this time of transition. As we walk by faith, we will see God's kingdom come and His will be done, here on earth as it is in heaven.

God bless you!
David Thomas, President

Meet our newest TEN Board Members

Maria Caruana, Council Member

Maria Caruana

Maria Caruana: Maria was raised in Brooklyn, New York. She was an atheist until her relationship with Jesus began in 1986. At that time, God delivered her from a life of alcohol and drugs to live life in abundance in Him. Maria was called by God’s into pastoral service.  Feeling this call on her life, Maria started attending and eventually graduated from Christ Evangelical Bible Institute in 1994.  In 1996 Maria moved from Phoenix to San Francisco to become the pastor of Freedom In Christ Church and to share a life with your wife Terrie.  She continues to pastor FICC today.

It is Maria’s heart’s desire to tell everyone about God’s love and the relationship He wants to have with them through Jesus.  She prays to perform her ministry with compassion, mercy, and honesty as she reaches out to these individuals.  She also wants to encourage all to be the person God has created them to be as LGBTQS individuals.

Life Scripture:
Romans 12:1-2 (NIV), “Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God's mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God - this is your spiritual act of worship. Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is - his good, pleasing and perfect will.”

Tom Cash, Council Member

Tom Cash

Pastor Tom Cash main background is in the Charismatic Church.  At the age of 21, he had a significant “born again” experience in the passenger seat of an old Ford Mustang.

After years of trying to hide the fact that he was a gay man, he entered into a reparative therapy program for four years that was a 24/7 live-in program. He became disillusioned with “Religious Christianity”, so he left the church for many years. However, he held on to his relationship with God during this time of self-destructive behavior.  Eventually the Holy Spirit led him to Glory Tabernacle Christian Center in Long Beach California where he discovered he could be gay and Christian. This led him to rebuild and renew his commitment to God and to being a part of a church.

Tom and his husband Mike Zukoski eventually relocated from Long Beach to Asheville North Carolina where they attended Abundant Grace Church in Granite Falls, North Carolina.  He was later ordained as a minister by Pastor David Thomas, the pastor of Abundant Grace. In 2011 he started a meet up group that led to the founding of Jesus People Church of Asheville, which he continues to pastor.  He also hosts the annual "Out to the Nations Conference" which has included such prominent speakers as Jay Bakker and Alan Chambers.

Being a survivor of "reparative therapy", Tom hopes to help other LGBTQ people who struggle in the area of being LGBTQ and Christian to know that God created them just the way they are!

About The Evangelical Network

TEN was started in 1988 as a fellowship of Bible believing churches, ministries, Christian workers and individuals who share a common faith, purpose and witness. Our mission is to spread the Gospel to ALL people and to build bridges between the LGBT Evangelical community and the straight Evangelical community by fostering a safe space for ongoing conversation and education. We provide resources, support and networking opportunities for churches, ministries and individuals who are LGBT affirming or are seeking to become affirming. Our affiliate churches, ministries and Christian workers collaborate together on national and international projects.
